TEDx Teesside University…a great success

TEDxTeessideUniversity, held in the Sound Studio in the Phoenix Building, brought together a number of speakers from the world of digital technology. The event also featured the screening of a number of TEDTalks. For more information and riveting talks by remarkable people visit www.ted.com/

The team at Better attended the event, which was held after the EXPOTEES Showcase event, and enjoyed the programme of live speakers detailed below.

Andy Dobson
Born in London, and raised in the North East, Andrew Dobson is a Creative Technologist and Development Manager at Sky Creative, the internal creative agency for BSkyB. A flash evangelist since v1, he has spearheaded the development of much of Sky’s internal rich media work.

James Wallbank
James is an artist, educator and free software advocate. He founded the arts group Redundant Technology Initiative and has exhibited in numerous international venues. He’s deeply engaged with developing digital media theory and has authored two internationally influential documents, ‘Lowtech Manifesto’ and ‘Zero Dollar Laptop Manifesto’.

Peter Dodd
From The Beatles to Gorillaz; Mr. Tati to Jerry Seinfield, 2D Animator Peter Dodd has applied his talent for drawing and illustration to a number of projects including feature films, music videos and TV adverts. Since graduating from Sunderland University in 1990, Peter has amassed an enviable list of credits including, The Bear (adapted from Raymond Brigg’s classic book), Sylvain Chomet’s The Illusionist and the recent Gorillaz video for the single Melancholy Hill.

Daniel Kolodziej
Starting his professional career in the field of electronic/electrical engineering, Daniel then diversified into the world of business as the sales and product manager for ABB PLC’s. Daniel is currently CEO of Poll.me, an exciting software start-up, which allows the creation and completion of polls and surveys on any compatible smart phone. Daniel creates an interesting mix of technology, business and academia to produce innovative ideas and thought provoking talks and opinions.

One of the featured TED videos was Alexis Ohanian’s talk about ‘How to make a splash in social media’. The co-founder of Reddit tells the real-life fable of one humpback whale’s rise to Web stardom.
