North East Business Awards

Friday, February 19th, 2010

We’re pleased, and very proud, to announce we’ve been shortlisted for the ‘ICT and Internet Award’ in the North East Business Awards.

We got the call today from the sponsors of the category to give us the good news and now we’re all excited and looking forward to the Awards Dinner on 25th March at Teesside University. The winning companies from each of the sub-regional heats (not applicable to Best Creative Business and Not-for-profit Organisation of the Year Awards) will go through to the Regional Final of the nebusiness awards which will be held at Hardwick Hall Hotel on Thursday, 29 April 2010.

More details of the Awards category and criteria is detailed below:

Purpose of Competition:

To recognise companies and other organisations that have used web technology, including ICT, e-commerce and e-business, to enhance their business.

Judging Criteria:

The judges will be seeking examples of best practice and will look for:

- Excellence of website design, in terms of visual appearance, navigability and interactivity.

- A demonstrable impact of the use of web technology on the business, internally and externally.

- The innovative use of Internet technology to improve business performance or boost competitiveness within an existing business, or to start a new enterprise.

The regional business award format is now in it’s 10th year. It is a tried and trusted formula that offers a consistent benchmark for judging performance.

Since 2000, over 2,500 different companies in the North East have entered one of the Award categories. That is a fantastic endorsement of the event and shows that the event really means something to the business community. Companies of all shapes and sizes, and in all sectors, get involved.

A key ingredient of the nebusiness awards is the tremendous support we get from the Award sponsors. Organisations such as Public Health North East, Pearsons, One NorthEast, UK Trade & Investment, KPMG and Deloitte give the event credibility and gravitas.

A mandate for 2010

Thursday, January 14th, 2010

A recent post by Jeanne C Meister and Karie Willyerd in Harvard Business discussed how few socially connected organisations there are, indicating this will need to be redressed if companies are to be attractive to a future workforce that judges a potential employer by the social media freedom they allow their employees.

The social networking juice that powers a generation across sprawling vibrant communities has its feed forcibly cut off when the majority of company staff walk into work. All the potential of networked company communities, the opportunity for people to collaborate and and share knowledge is left at home and lost to the company. (more…)

Have a Better Christmas…

Friday, December 18th, 2009

The team and I settle down in front of the fake fire, as I open my stupidly big, old book and look lovingly at you, our audience.  Let me begin, “It was the night before Christmas…

Paul breaks in ”No, sorry it isn’t the night before Christmas“,

Yeah, I know that!” I reply, annoyed that the moment has been spoilt. “Don’t start!

Paul quickly comes back. “We have to make sure we’re factually right, they’re our customers.

Aw maaaaaan” Sam chips in. (more…)

Be Better Informed – November

Tuesday, November 24th, 2009

Our monthly shout out about what’s buzzing in the Better studio.

——————————————————————–

Shortlisted for The Northern Marketing Awards
We’re delighted to be shortlisted for Best Digital Marketing Campaign alongside four other companies at the up coming Northern Marketing Awards. We know the other companies involved and in all honesty just being pitched alongside them is fantastic. They’re good businesses, with passionate people so we’ll be chuffed regardless of who wins. (Secretly we obviously want it badly! But you knew that didn’t you?)

Our Second trip abroad to pitch!
After a successful first trip, we’re going back to deliver “The Social Media Pitch Part Deux!” This week Paul and I are going back to talk about specifics and hopefully, our first two international clients will follow shortly after.

A shameless shout out for Declan
Dec has launched a new blog, ‘A Social Life’, which will focus on our interest in social brands, design, and businesses who have implemented successfully social strategies. We figure if we find the case studies that show you social brands in action, and contributing to their community, we can all learn from them. We’d like your feedback, both good and bad so please tell us what you think. Take a look at www.asociallife.co.uk. (more…)
