A FORMER finalist in an annual challenge to find Teesside’s most promising new entrepreneur is urging businesses to enter this year for the “great opportunities” it offers.

Design Education – The Next Creative Generation

Are you born with a creative mindset or is it taught?

In 2012 we heard that the government was strongly considering the removal of design-related subjects from the school curriculum with the introduction of the new EBacc. The concern was that at its very worst this could result in the death of UK creative industries, which currently employ around 2 million people.

A talk entitled ‘The Next Creative Generation’ at Cheltenham Design Festival addressed this topic and encouraged debate amongst attendees, all of whom are engaged in some kind of way in the UK creative world. Speaking at this talk were Sir Christopher Frayling – Professor at RCA, Tim Lindsay – CEO of D&AD and Adrian Shaughnessy – writer for Eye, Creative Review and Design Observer (Chair) – three extremely passionate and inspirational personalities. The awards have been designed to celebrate business leaders and companies that deliver a substantial contribution to the region’s well being. As a business, and individuals, we are very committed to supporting innovation, investing in new product development and committing resources to education and enterprise projects around the region. We’ve got our tickets booked for the upcoming Cheltenham Design Festival in April. Our team are taking a road trip down to the festival to soak up the atmosphere, enjoy some networking with other creative thinkers, and help celebrate how original thought can change the world.

With a mix of studio events, auditorium events, and exhibitions we’re really looking forward to hearing from those who keep Britain at the heart of the creative world and discover who is setting the agenda for design today in areas ranging from digital technology, engineering, graphic design and architecture. Sheffield based Performance Engineering Solutions (PES) have launched a new website. PES is a high performance engineering design business, with a multi-disciplinary team of design and performance engineers which delivered design engineering, reverse engineering, research/development, analysis, testing and manufacturing services.

PES is based at the Advanced Manufacturing Park (AMP) in Sheffield alongside some of the world’s most advanced organizations in the research and development of advanced manufacturing technology.

With a prosperous 2012 only just behind us we’ve started 2013 on a high with two new appointments. As we continue to grow our profile and client base across the UK, the new appointments are a direct result of securing a number of high profile digital and web projects including the development of a series of crowd funding platforms for Carlton & Co.

Laura Mack joins our team as Head of Marketing, bringing to the agency nearly twenty years of experience in strategic marketing, successfully managing the full marketing mix for companies such as Heinz, Cadbury, and Procter & Gamble, in addition to agency side experience with dunnhumby. She is an expert in both local marketing implementation as well as global strategy development and has a real passion for creating that all-important emotional link between a brand or business and its customer.
