We’ve been very busy this week. First speaking at Superfast West Yorkshire’s ‘Big Social Media Show’, and also taking part in the ExpoTalent 2015 event at Teesside University.
ExpoTalent is a fantastic scheme run by Teesside University that showcases the next generation of digital talent. It gives 2nd year School of Computing students the opportunity to put themselves in front of potential employers to bag themselves a year long work experience placement. It also works the other way round too, in that it allows employers like ourselves to showcase their company as a potential employer to future graduates.
Around 70 students attended the event overall, which was a fantastic turn out for the university and for everyone involved. These students were all enrolled in a range of courses at Teesside University including Computer Science, Computing, ICT, Web and Multi-Media, Games Art, Games Design, Games Programming and Animation & Visual Effects.
After sponsoring the Expo events in recent years, we were delighted to be asked to get involved with it this year again and gladly took time out to sit on the ExpoTalent employer panel also, which was a precursor to the main event.
The panel was made up of members from businesses around the North East, whom were ready to listen and offer advice to any students willing to ask them questions. Joining Mark was Stella Gauld of Accenture, Andi Liddell of Animmersion, Erin Turnbull from Eutechnyx and Michael Leah who was actually a final year student at the university.
The employer panel was one of the main activities that took place on the day, where its aim was to help students to understand the recruitment process from the employer’s perspective and to gain employers’ thoughts on how they could improve their performance when applying for placements or jobs after graduation.
“We always love to get involved with events such as this to support the talent that comes out of Teesside University.
It’s great to see what the students have to offer in terms of skills and hopefully give them a helping hand in the right direction when it comes to moving forward in their careers.”

ExpoTalent is a precursor to the bigger event that Teesside University’s School of Computing organise, ExpoTees, which is taking place on May 13th and 14th. This is an annual showcase of exemplary student work and gives graduates that are joining the industry this year to talk about their projects, show off their portfolios and share their ideas.
