Creating a bold look for strong doors

The Brief

Overall this was a job of simplification and distillation. After we created their new Brand Story we knew that Metador had a simple message of strength. To keep that message as stark as possible we needed a much cleaner, more professional, more cohesive and more robust design system.

Background

Metador is a North East based manufacturer and supplier of steel doors and doorsets aimed at customers nationwide. They provide security and fire rated steel doors with close collaboration, solid service and stronger steel.

The Solution

Along with the need to update, Metador came to us with one main problem; the fact that their doors were stronger wasn’t coming through clearly. While it is the job of marketing to convey product benefits and selling points, brand can support, emphasise and even subconsciously lay the groundwork. So every part of this brand was designed to look and feel strong.

Metador Identity

Strong principles, stronger doors

Metador believe in always raising the bar, from their five-star customer service to their collaborative design team. They have very strong principles about doing things right, treating people right and making things right if they ever go wrong. We knew that the core of their brand had to be built upon the strength and superiority of their product but if our strapline could also hint at their strength of character, that would be even better.

When is a door not a door?

Building on the name of Metador’s best selling product, the Defender, we took the idea of a traditional heraldic shield with and fused it with a simplified representation of a door. Just like the strapline this was about taking a simple idea and making it as strong, immediate and bold as possible. The type in the word mark was specifically chosen for its strong rigid character and we continued its use throughout the brand, reenforcing the message of strength.
